Morena Restaurant
Pisco sour cocktails kicked off a delicious Secret Foodies dinner last week at Latin American restaurant Morena in Surry Hills. Peruvian Head Chef Alejandro Saravia created a 4 course meal, incorporating ingredients and dishes signature to different parts of South America include alpaca. Check out photos from the night here!

Food was amazing and Alejandro is great!
Fantastic dinner, wondeful flavours & a great chance to try a new cuisine, well done Alejandro! The wine was lovely and the service superb, would definately come back!
Loved the food this evening. the cerviche and the main- just delish!
Great menu… great vibe… great night…
Recommended.
Great evening. Took me back to my days in South Aneruca … But the food was even better. Fantastic cerviche & amazing steak, all washed down with a few pisco sours : )
I liked the heat.
Thoroughly enjoyed the food! Awesome tastes and unlike any other menu i can recall. Great service with a smile and a laugh. Thank you for a great night!!
Attentive service, amazing pisco sours, and to die for Latin American desert! That’s what you’re in for when attending Morena. Strongly recommend this place to anyone who appreciates the subtle yet complex combinations of flavours, and a surprising cultural experience! The head chef/owner’s journey is as spectacular as the food.

Fabulous night reminiscing about all things South American. Food was sensational – took Peruvian food up another notch. The desert was a pleasant surprise!
I thought it was all very nice. My daughter called me while I was in the middle of Coles asking me to dinner. I got here as quick as I could expecting a McDonalds takeaway but have been pleasantly surprised – top scran as we say in Scotland, I will be back.
The highlight for me was the affable young Irish man who enriched my night what a gent.
Awesome use of different cuts of meat – each dish was very flavorsome
Really enjoyed the night and found the food interesting. Being critical though, I found the salmon taste over powered by the spice/heat without being well complimented; the tamal a little bland; the beef over powered by the smoked aubergine. I did honestly enjoy the meal and some of the constituent parts but as a whole not to my taste.
…I’ll still recommend the restaurant for the quality of the service and the wine though

Sour ceviche bites,
dim bulbous lights,
Tamal corn delight,
Purivian salty caramel. LOVE
Good south American ingredients and it does measure up to propositions. Love the taste but salmon for me was a bit overpowering ( can’t taste the salmon) and beef is a bit hard to chew
Pisco cocktail perfect start to the evening followed by a fantastic meal.
Great night! Pesco Sours were a great start. All the food was absolutely delicious – all washed down with amazing wine. Recommend this restaurant – I’ll definitely be going back.
A really enjoyable evening all round! It pays to not have any expectations or preconceived ideas about the dishes and be open to new tastes, as the dishes were not what most people would have experienced before – as Alejandro said “ceviche is different in every part of south america”
I loved the kiss pepper, and the amuse bouche of alpaca was a welcome surprise. The scallop canapés were also delicious. Would have been great to have beer as an option for the beverage and some side veges to go with the main.
I had a lovely evening. The pisco sour cocktail was a great start and the taste of dishes from South America light, fresh flavours that were delicious. The Argentinian wine was a great match.
I loved Alejandro’s stories and you can see his passion for food and his restaurant.
An excellent event at an excellent restaurant.
Alejandro has captured his culture & put it on a plate in a spectacular way!
Will recommend Morena to anyone that will listen!
