All aboard! It’s time to hop onto Island time with delicious food, flowing wine and good times at the Island Picnic.

Summer means many things to many different people. What we can all agree on is that an afternoon of sunshine filled with delicious food and great company can only bode well – especially with Sydney’s iconic Harbour in the background.

Marking one of the more adventurous foodie experiences, guests were told to meet at the Double Bay Wharf at 1pm.

Here guests were greeted and told to slip into “island time” with a glass of wine. Kicking off the day in style, Nick from Signor Vino had cold rosé ready and waiting for guests as they arrived.

Glass in hand guests boarded the uber stylish Lekker boat and embarked on a short trip to their next destination. Clark Island.

Guests departed the boat and were greeted by Ms Darlinghurst with more rosé. The island-themed tunes were pumping from six Ultimate Ears Megabooms hanging from picnic umbrellas, providing the perfect backdrop to the summer weather.

An assortment of large picnic rugs, colourful pillows, parasols and sun umbrellas set the scene along with a beautiful backdrop of Sydney Harbour. Picnic baskets were filled with a delicious assortment of edible delights courtesy of Chicken & Sons. This included smoked ham and pork belly terrine, English cheddar, soft boiled eggs, pickles, mustard and freshly baked baguettes. All essential ingredients to any good picnic.

A variety of Signor Vino wines including the 2014 Fiano white wine, 2016 Rosé and 2015 Sangoivese red wine (our personal favourite) were on offer. Meanwhile a lavish grazing table was set up and ready to go. Chicken and Sons had prepared a range of vibrant salads with tongue-in-cheek titles. ‘It’s Fully Sick Bra’ was made with smoked eggplant, wheat, parsley, Lebanese pickles, cabbage, dates, mint and yoghurt. Other salads included the ‘Michael Bublé and Squeak’, made with steamed chat potatoes, Maple bacon, parsley, spring onions, maple aioli, crispy onions.

Chicken and Sons jerk chicken and lime, plus za’atar yoghurt baked salmon and mustard and thyme roasted sirloin all went down a treat.

After an afternoon of wining and dining, the day leisurely came to a close as the Lekker boat returned to ferry one group of very happy foodies back to the wharf.
